King Range Wilderness

The Northern California Wild Heritage Wilderness Act of 2006, when signed into law created several wilderness areas including the King Range Wilderness.

The King Range Wilderness is located within the King Range National Conservation Area. Its boundaries can be seen on this map, which shows designated wilderness in a darker shade of yellow.

Wilderness designation affects the area's management, though most of the areas now legally considered wilderness have been managed as de facto wilderness for many years. The actual changes aren't apparent if you come to hike and camp along the Lost Coast. The designation offers the BLM additional legal ground upon which to protect the area's wild character and opportunities for solitude.
